Conceived as a “written improvisation,” Corea allows substantial interpretative freedom to the performers to alter this work. After hearing my new version, Chick Corea said, “Please tell Noah that I really enjoyed his and his pianist’s rendition. He gets such a beautiful sound on his instrument. The composer is pleased!”

Recorded on the DC Salon Concert Series
This video excerpt is from a performance with my jazz trio of Antônio Carlos Jobim’s “Corcovado (Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars),” a bossa nova jazz standard made famous by tenor saxophonist Stan Getz. This performance was part of a series of jazz salon concerts I presented in homes throughout Washington, DC, which received grant funding from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.
Conflux Improvisation (Excerpt)
March 5, 2016
Atlas Performing Arts Center’s Intersections Festival
Conflux is a trio that explores the intersection between jazz and Indian classical music. This excerpt demonstrates me improvising in 5/4 time using a scale that is common in both musical styles. This trio explores the intersection between the improvisational traditions of jazz and Indian classical music through jazz standards, ragas, and original compositions.
Cotxes
Composed by Fernando Benadon
Cotxes, or cars in Catalan, is a film about the experience of driving in Barcelona on a spring day. Fernando Benadon’s score features the saxophone along with harp, piano, and percussion. Through the use of “microtimings,” the composer references the flexibility of improvisation in a composed score.
